Triennial Central Bank Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Activity 2001
In April this year the BIS coordinated the latest triennial central bank survey of foreign exchange market activity. As in the 1998 survey, this year's exercise also included the collection of turnover and amounts-outstanding data on OTC derivatives market activity. The geographical coverage of the triennial survey again expanded, from 43 countries and regions in 1998 to 48 this year. Many participating countries have agreed on a common release date for their national data on foreign exchange and derivatives turnover. At the same time, on 9 October 2001, the BIS published its global results for the turnover part of the survey. The global results on OTC derivatives positions outstanding were published on 20 December 2001. The national results of central banks and monetary authorities are available on their websites.
