At their meeting in Basle today, the Governors of the central banks of the Group of Ten countries appointed Mr. Yutaka Yamaguchi, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, as Chairman of the Euro-currency Standing Committee, for a term of three years, starting 1st May. Mr. Yamaguchi succeeds Mr. Toshihiko Fukui, former Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, as the Committee's Chairman.
The Euro-currency Standing Committee was set up in 1971. The Committee monitors developments in international financial markets and examines issues bearing on their functioning and stability.
