Nithya Navaratnam appointed as Deputy Head of Banking

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Nithya Navaratnam as Deputy Head of the Banking Department.
Ms Navaratnam joined the BIS in 2020 as the Head of Credit Risk Management. Previously she worked at Goldman Sachs, where she progressed through various regional and global credit risk leadership roles across their New York and Singapore offices. She holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, a Master of Science in Financial Engineering and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
The BIS offers a wide range of banking services to help central banks and other official monetary institutions manage their foreign exchange reserves.
Ms Navaratnam will begin her five-year term on 1 July 2024. She succeeds Luis Bengoechea, who became Head of the Banking Department on 1 June 2024.
