The Governors of the Group of Ten (G10) central banks today elected Mr Jean-Claude Trichet as their Chairman. The Governors were meeting in Basel on the occasion of the Annual General Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements.
Mr Trichet is Governor of the Bank of France and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. He succeeds Sir Edward George, who is retiring as Governor of the Bank of England. Sir Edward has chaired the meetings of the G10 Governors since 1999.
The G10 Governors meet regularly to discuss the world economy and international financial markets. Their meetings also give the Governors the opportunity to discuss the activities of the various committees reporting to them.
