Biographical note: Monica Ellis - Secretary General
Monica Ellis became Secretary General of the BIS on 1 January 2017. As Secretary General, she is a member of the Bank's Executive Committee.
Mrs Ellis joined the BIS in 1996 as a credit risk analyst and became Head of Trade Processing in the Banking Settlements Centre in 1999. Between 2003 and 2013, she was Deputy Head of Risk Control and Head of Credit Analysis.
In 2014, she was appointed Deputy Secretary General and concurrently held the position of Head of Communications until 2017.
Before joining the BIS, Mrs Ellis was a credit analyst at various financial institutions in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Mrs Ellis holds a degree in economics from the University of Waikato.
