Biographical note: Peter Dittus, former Secretary General
Peter Dittus was Secretary General of the BIS from 1 January 2005 until 31 December 2016.
Mr Dittus joined the BIS in 1992 as an economist and from 1995 assumed increasingly senior responsibilities in the Bank's administrative domain. In 2000, he was appointed Deputy Secretary General and became a member of the Bank's senior management team.
Before joining the BIS, he was an economist at the World Bank and the OECD.
Mr Dittus holds a doctorate in economics from Saarland University and a diploma in economics from the University of Michigan.
